Chipped Teeth: 1,2,3

You probably weren’t trying to chip your tooth but sometimes it happens. It might have been something you did (or have been doing, as bad habits can lead to damaged teeth). Or, you might have had a stroke of bad luck. Whatever the case, there are generally some ways to prevent chips from occurring. Of course, when they do, cosmetic dentistry is here to help. Get the details you need in three easy steps, so you can keep your smile looking beautiful.

#1: Avoiding Chips

Keeping your teeth free of chips is not as difficult as it might seem. Fortunately, your enamel is some pretty strong stuff (it’s the outer layer of your tooth). Yes, it is very strong but as you have come to realize, occasional damage is possible. Here’s what you need to know in order to keep those teeth solid and intact:

  • Don’t eat foods that you are pretty sure might end up breaking or chipping your tooth
  • Don’t do anything that requires your teeth to absorb too much pressure (like, don’t try to tear open a box or bag with them)
  • Keep fingernails, pens, pencils, and all other hard objects away from your teeth

#2: Chip Or Break?

Not sure what damage has just occurred? No problem. We suggest you come in for a dental visit, so we can check in on your teeth. It could be a chip, which we can fix with cosmetic dentistry. Or, it could be a serious crack or break. Not to worry! We can fix it all.

#3: Fixing Those Chips

If it is, indeed, a chip, you will require cosmetic dentistry to repair the damage. Very minor issues are easily addressed with bonding to replace the tissue or contouring to smooth the damage. We may treat a chipped tooth with a veneer, as well, if you are interested in a more dramatic tooth improvement.
