If you think you have a canker sore, then you are looking at something that is light-colored in the center (it’s usually a white or yellow color). Around that light center is a ring or halo that will be red. The center is concave. However, the area around it may feel and look somewhat swollen. It’s also going to be fairly uncomfortable. If this description does not match what’s happening in your mouth, come see us, so we may help!
Nope! Your loved ones may not want to come too close to you just because they’re a little bit afraid of your canker sore (and you may be in a bit of a crabby mood, due to the discomfort) but you don’t need to worry about it. You can kiss your spouse but keep the sore to yourself.
Yes! You may take measures to numb the affected site, if you wish! We don’t want you to have to suffer as you wait for the sore to heal. Head to your area drugstore and seek out topical numbing ointment, so you can get some much-needed relief.
It mostly just needs time to get better on its own. Give it some space, be careful as you brush and floss near the canker sore, and do your best to not touch it. You may also combine salt with water and swish with it as a natural antiseptic, so you know you’re keeping the sore safe from bacteria.
As we mentioned, you will probably be able to just wait it out and things will improve. However, you may find that you have a sore that’s not going away, that’s worsening, or that is far more intense than a canker sore you’ve ever had before! For these “other” instances, certainly give us a call!
Let us know if you have developed a sore that you cannot identify or if you have a canker sore that is not going away. Schedule a checkup, so we may tell you exactly what’s happening and offer improvement and relief.
