Tooth Extractions: Making Extra Room

Sometimes, the tooth extraction that you need isn’t about the fact that you may have missed some brushing sessions here and there and, as a result, your tooth became diseased. Sometimes, it’s not about accidentally ending up with trauma to your tooth, thereby requiring an extraction. In some instances, and this is more common than you might assume, you just need more room in that smile of yours! Let’s chat about it.

Why You Need Room

You may need more room in your smile because the space you have versus the amount and size of your teeth may not offer sufficient accommodation. Translation? Your type of misalignment is called overcrowding and taking some teeth away will permit you to end up with a balanced bite and pretty, uniform grin.

What This Means For Your Smile

Often times, when you require a tooth extraction, it’s for a tooth that you need (and, as a result, you will need to replace it). When the removal is for a tooth that is in the way, the plan will not be to replace the tooth. Instead, the plan will be to close the space by pulling your remaining teeth together, likely with the help of braces. Remember, you needed that extra “real estate” in order to make way for your entire smile and its beautiful alignment.

How Do I Know What I Need?

This isn’t something you will come up with on your own. Either by visiting with us or by speaking with your orthodontist, you may discover that you have an overcrowded smile. Either our team or your orthodontic team will suggest the removal of teeth in order to provide the necessary additional space to continue an alignment plan.
