Bad Breath Q&A: Serious Problem Or Not?

As you may already feel on an intuitive level, bad breath can let you know that you need help with your oral health. However, it’s not always a signal that it’s time for a dental visit. How to tell what’s what? A Q&A session will offer some initial guidance!

Questions and Answers

Question: I often get bad breath when I eat certain foods. However, it usually goes away with my dental hygiene. Is this something I should worry about?

Answer: Nope! Your breath problem is the result of the foods you’re eating. You have the option to continue addressing the issue with your brushing and flossing or by avoiding the foods that are a problem.

Question: My bad breath seems very bad. I brush and floss like I’m supposed to but no matter what I do it won’t stop. I haven’t seen a dentist in a long time. Is this a big deal?

Answer: It could be the result of multiple concerns. You may have untreated decay or infection that smells foul (and which we can treat with care). Or, you may simply need a cleaning and the buildup of plaque and tartar is the issue. Or both! In any case, you need our care!

Question: I see you consistently for cleanings and checkups but I don’t take very good care of my smile in between. I’m wondering if I was more serious about hygiene if it would improve my breath.

Answer: You are spot-on with this assumption. When you don’t brush and floss, you leave bacteria and food on your teeth, between your teeth, and even on your tongue. This can smell awful! Improve your care (and see us soon) for improvement.
