Teeth Built Tough With Dental Sealants

Are your children’s teeth built tough? Teeth are tough, but they aren’t indestructible. They can develop cavities, get broken, cracked, fractured, and even knocked out. If you could prevent any one of those things from happening with clear liquid and a paint brush, would you? Your children’s teeth can be built tough with dental sealants. If you aren’t familiar with sealants, or even if you are, take our true and false quiz below to find out how much you know.

True or False?

  1. True or False: Dental sealants can protect your child’s teeth from fractures, cracks, and breaks.
  2. True or False: Dental sealants have only just been invented.
  3. True or False: There is some discomfort associated with the application of dental sealants.
  4. True or False: Dental sealants need to be reapplied annually.
  5. True or False: Dental sealants are only for children.

Answers:

  1. False: Not actually, but dental sealants can protect your children’s teeth from decay, and since decay happens more frequently than fractures, cracks, and breaks, and can cost money and cause discomfort, dental sealants are a good preventative measure.
  2. False: Dental sealants have actually been around since the 1960s, but not even one-third of American children have their teeth sealed.
  3. False: Dental sealants are fast, easy, and painless to apply, and there are no side effects associated with sealants.
  4. False: Dental sealants are a plastic resin material that is painted onto teeth as a liquid. The resin seeps into the grooves and depressions of teeth and hardens into a clear solid shield that can protect your children’s teeth for years.
  5. False: While children are young, their teeth can develop pits, valleys, and fissures which is why they are perfect candidates for sealants. They are not the only candidates, however. Adults can benefit from sealants, too.
