Removable partial denture, mandibular prosthesis. Medically accurate 3D illustration of prosthodontics concept
When we lose our teeth, this often impacts our confidence, as well as our oral health and bite function. But we can help, even if you have lost most or all of your natural teeth. With a set of custom dentures, your Grand Prairie, TX, dentist can return your smile to full function and beauty again!
What happens when you lose the majority of your teeth? This could happen due to factors like tooth decay and infection, or an injury, but in most cases occurs due to periodontitis. Losing multiple teeth could limit meal options and leave you deprived of essential nutrients. Tooth loss is also linked to speech difficulties and embarrassment in social situations. You could also be more likely to develop misalignment and the stress on your jaw joints could cause TMJ disorder, leading to painful symptoms. The body will also stop sending important nutrients to the jaw around the missing roots, so this portion weakens and leads to further tooth loss and for many, an older appearance. But we can help with a set of custom-made prosthetics.
We have two options for people with severe tooth loss. If you are missing all of your teeth, or the vast majority, then we will extract the last few and take detailed images and measurements of your bite, which we use in a lab setting to design and fabricate a set of full dentures. The prostatic will contain a complete row of ceramic teeth that look natural, all set in a base that mimics the appearance of gum tissues, suction and adhesives then keep them in place.
If you have several gaps but a large number of natural teeth remain, we could offer a partial. This prosthetic only contains a specific number of new teeth to fit in the gaps in your smile, again secured in a base that looks like gum tissues, metal clasps will connect to natural teeth and keep your prosthetic firmly in place.
With removable dentures, like we discussed above, replacement is needed every 5 to 10 years as the jaw ridge changes shape due to the loss of mass and density in the jaw. But! We could also insert multiple dental implants per arch. These are inserted into the jaw and act like natural roots, which stimulates the growth of jawbone structure. When this happens, you no longer lose mass and density in the jaw, so your facial structure and jaw remain intact. This also means your new teeth can remain fixed in place for years to come, decades or possibly a lifetime.
