Teeth Whitening Provides A Brighter Smile

Do you have stained teeth? If so, this could be a source of embarrassment, but our team can help with professional teeth whitening, including in-office and take-home treatment options! In today’s blog, your Grand Prairie, TX, dentist talks about two teeth whitening treatment options.

The Causes of Your Teeth Stains

Why do teeth stains happen? There are actually a number of reasons, as some are related to your oral hygiene habits. Plaque buildup can make stains visible, and this is often the result of factors like poor brushing and flossing habits combined with a diet high in sugar and starch. You could also develop discoloration due to drinks with dark pigments, such as soda, coffee, tea, and red wine. Tobacco use could be another factor. As part of the process, our team will take a close look to assess the cause and severity of your teeth stains. We can then choose the right teeth whitening treatment for you!

Removing Discoloration from the Office

If you need results in a short time frame, such as before a big event, job interview, or first date, you may consider our in-office treatment option. This brightens smiles in as little as one to two hours. The process starts with our team applying a protective covering over the lips and gums. We then place a powerful bleaching gel to the teeth, which we activate with a light. The process is repeated as needed to brighten your smile and remove stains, all in one sitting.

Our Take-Home Teeth Whitening Kit

If you have more severe discoloration, then our team may prescribe our at-home teeth whitening treatment. With this option, you only visit our office long enough for us to take impressions of your bite and use them to create a set of custom trays. We send these plastic trays home with you, along with multiple plastic syringes of bleaching gel. When you get home, each day you will add gel to the trays and wear them for a set amount of time, usually 30 to 45 minutes. The trays ensure the results are even across your smile and prevents the gel from being diluted by saliva. For some, teeth will be up to eight shades brighter. You can keep the trays and any leftover gel for touch-ups down the road!
