If you have discoloration, then you need to talk to our team about professional teeth whitening. We have in-office and at-home options that could brighten smiles by several shades. In today’s blog, your Grand Prairie, TX, dentist talks about how we remove teeth stains with our professional whitening treatments!
How do our teeth become stained? Dental discoloration typically occurs over time. One major factor is diet. When we consume foods high in sugar and starch, this creates plaque buildup that makes discoloration more apparent. Lack of good oral hygiene habits are a factor too, as poor brushing and flossing could also contribute to plaque and greater visibility for teeth stains. What we drink matters, as beverages with dark pigments like soda, tea, red wine, and coffee could discolor teeth. Tobacco products are a major cause as well! Our team offers two different teeth whitening treatments, and the one we chose for you will be based on the cause and extent of your discoloration.
Many people opt for our in-office teeth whitening treatment because it offers optimal results in as little as one to two hours. When you arrive, we will place a protective covering over your lips and gums. Once this is in place, we will apply the bleaching gel to the surfaces of your teeth. We next use a special light to activate the bleaching gel and begin breaking up teeth stains. The process could be repeated as needed, but you will leave our office with a brighter smile. If you need results before a job interview, first date, or special event, this could be helpful for you.
If you have more severe teeth stains, we may recommend our take-home kit. You will visit the office just long enough for our team to take detailed images and measurements of your bite, which we use to design and craft a set of plastic trays, which fit over your teeth. You will take these trays home with you, along with several plastic syringes of bleaching gel. When you are home, each day you will add the gel to the trays and wear them for a specific amount of time, repeating this daily for one to two weeks. This could brighten smiles by up to eight shades in many cases! The trays are then yours to keep, along with the remaining gel, so you can perform touch-ups as needed. The trays help prevent the saliva from diluting the day, and ensure the results are even across your smile.
