When Smiles Need Restorative Dentistry

When a tooth is cracked or chipped, or begins to ache due to a cavity, then you need restorative dentistry to enjoy optimal oral health and avoid complications. To help, our team offers a comprehensive approach to restorative dentistry! In today’s blog, your Grand Prairie, TX, dentist talks about when smiles need restorative dentistry to shine once again, and how we can use these treatments to offer optimal oral health and bite function for our patients again.

When to See Our Team

When should you see our team for restorative treatment? As we touched on above, damage to a tooth needs attention, even if the injury appears minor. Compromised outer enamel could allow tooth decay and dental infection to occur. Speaking of, we could use custom restorative treatments to address cavities and functions, so you can enjoy a comfortable smile, one free of discomfort and complications. We could also address missing teeth too, so you can enjoy a full and healthy smile. Don’t let your oral health suffer, talk to our team about restorative dental care.

Planning Treatment

When you see our team for treatment, we will take detailed digital images of your smile from multiple angles. With digital x-rays and intraoral cameras, we can make a diagnosis with precision and accuracy. Our team can then plan treatment in detail, so you have restoration that not only fits comfortably and repairs a tooth, but that looks natural too. Every smile is unique, which is why we take a personalized approach to care.

Dental Fillings

When you have a cavity, we can help with a dental filling. Instead of using metal material, we have a metal-free composite resin, one that we can shade to blend with the smile. The placement process only takes one visit, and we numb your tooth beforehand so you are comfortable throughout the placement. We then polish it to ensure it blends with your smile. In addition to treating cavities, we could use the same composite resin in a bonding procedure to mask common cosmetic imperfections.

Dental Crowns

What if you have an injury or a case of tooth decay too severe for a filling? Then we could place a crown! A crown is a dental restoration that fits over the visible portion of a tooth, and is shaded to blend with your smile. We often use materials like ceramic or zirconia, which can absorb daily bite forces and pressures with ease. The placement process involves removing structure to make room for the crown, and then attaching it in a follow-up visit. Our team can repair damage, treat advanced tooth decay, or even address misshapen teeth. If you have missing teeth, then one could be used to restore a single tooth dental implant, or we could use two to support a dental bridge!

Root Canal Treatment

What if a tooth is infected? If so, you need treatment to address concerns with the interior of the tooth. A root canal involves our team taking x-rays to monitor the position of the infection, and then numbing your tooth so you are comfortable as we open it and remove the tissue inside. We then clean then interior of your tooth and add a special restorative material. The last step is to cap the tooth with a crown. The root canal stops discomfort and prevents your infection from growing in severity and causing tooth loss.

Tooth Extraction

As you have seen, many of our restorative treatments are designed to repair and preserve teeth, keeping your smile full. But what if you have an injury or infection so severe that we cannot treat it with a crown? In these cases, we need to remove them before they allow infection to spread. With a tooth infection, we can gently and carefully remove a tooth from your smile. We could do so to address damaged or decay, or to treat advanced infection. We could take out a tooth to make room for orthodontics, or to pave the way for a set of dentures. If you have wisdom teeth soon to erupt, then we could take them out beforehand and protect your smile from painful impactions.

Dental Prosthetics

What if you lose a tooth, or one has to be extracted? We can offer prosthetic dentistry to help address tooth loss and allow your smile to be whole again. We have several options available. For minor tooth loss, we could offer a bridge, which addresses between one and three missing teeth in a row. If you have gaps spread out across your arch, we could offer partial dentures. Full denture replaces every tooth on one of both arches. We could also discuss dental implant placement, in which we insert new roots in the form of biocompatible titanium posts inserted into the jaw, which can last for decades to come. This could replace an individual missing tooth, or be used to offer fixed dentures that never slip and last far longer than removable options.
