Straightening Your Smile With SureSmile

When you have uneven teeth, this can impact the appearance of your smile, but your overall oral health and bite function can suffer too. Fortunately, we can help shift your smile with orthodontics, and do so with a cosmetic approach. In today’s blog, your Grand Prairie, TX, dentist talks about our clear SureSmile aligners.

The Impact of Poor Alignment

We could develop misalignment for a number of reasons. Factors could include thumb sucking in childhood, premature loss of baby teeth that impact how permanent teeth erupt, or even injury or tooth loss in later years. When we have crooked, crowded, and overlapping teeth, this could alter the beauty and health of your smile. Poor alignment makes thorough brushing and flossing a difficult process, increasing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. The pressure on your jaw joints could also increase the risk of painful complications like TMJ disorder and bruxism (teeth grinding). To avoid negative changes to your bite function and oral health, and to improve the overall appearance of your smile, we could offer clear orthodontics with the SureSmile approach.

Creating Your Custom Plastic Aligners

Instead of metal brackets and wires, our team will use a series of clear and custom plastic aligners to shift your teeth into proper position, correcting misalignment. The key to the success of this system is the custom nature of the aligners. To begin, we will take detailed digital images and measurements of your smile from multiple angles. We then combined them to create a detailed 3D model of your smile, so experts can design and craft your aligners from a clear and BPA-free plastic material. Each set is designed to fit comfortably and correct the position of your teeth with precision and accuracy.

The SureSmile Process

You start by wearing a set of aligners for between 20 and 23 hours a day on average. Each one fits snugly over the teeth and helps gently move them closer and closer to their optimal positions. You wear each set for about two weeks, and then you start wearing the next set for the same amount of time. The process could offer an even smile in as little as one year for some patients! In addition to a comfortable fit and a clear appearance, they are also removable. This means you can take them out before meals, no need to avoid certain foods and snacks. Being removable also means you can have a much easier time brushing and flossing your teeth, reducing the risk of cavities, gingivitis, and teeth stains during the treatment process.
