Look Out For Things Making Bruxism Even Worse!

On its own, bruxism disorder is something that will continue to affect you without your input! However, it’s very important that you are aware of the following fact: You can most certainly make it worse. Even if you’re doing exactly what we suggest, which is to receive bruxism treatment from our Grand Prairie, TX team, we remind you that there’s more to addressing chronic grinding and clenching than your mouthguard. Fantastic new, though! Making changes to support your oral health in this case will be quite easy!

Too Much Caffeine (Etc.)

Wow! Have you been taking your coffee or tea drinking up a notch? If that’s the case, you may want to back it down a bit. Remember that these beverages, among others (including some foods), contain caffeine, which is a stimulant. This means that it will stimulate or encourage your muscles to move, rather than doing the opposite, which would be to relax them. With bruxism disorder, we remind you that you’re dealing with muscle movements that are taking place involuntarily and to an excessive degree, so skipping the extra caffeine will most definitely be to your benefit.

Extra Motion Throughout The Day

While you don’t want to add anything into your diet that will cause extra muscle movements, we remind you that you will also want to try to avoid training your muscles to move more than they have to. If you’re snacking quite frequently during the day or doing something like chewing gum, this can make bruxism disorder worse. Try to limit extra motion, when possible!

Not Dealing With Stress And Tension

You may not necessarily think of addressing and managing your stress and tension as an important part of your preventive dental care but it can be just that! As you may have realized, stress and tension can manifest themselves in many ways in the body and it’s nearly always a bad thing! In the case of bruxism disorder, it can contribute to it and can make matters worse. Give your smile a break by learning to address stress, when you can!

Your Misaligned Smile Or Dental Damage

One of the often overlooked reasons you may be dealing with bruxism is the fact that your bite can come into play. Misaligned teeth or a poor balance (due to damage or damaged dental work) is a factor. Consider addressing your bite with us!
