Which Fruits Are Better For My Smile?

You know that no matter what, if you decide to eat fruit (which is very good for your body, of course), it’s packed with natural sugars. While it’s true that they are natural, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t going to contribute to tooth decay. What you should take into consideration, as well, is that you don’t necessarily want to be eating fruit on a consistent basis that is also very acidic. Didn’t realize you had a choice? Let’s review some good guys (and bad guys) and what you can do to make sure you have the chance to enjoy everything you love.

The Better-For-Your-Smile Fruits

Some fruits are better than others. That’s because they are much less acidic than others. It’s important to remember that the more acidic the fruit (or other food or beverage you consume), the more dangerous it is for your smile. When the pH in your mouth drops, your teeth become vulnerable to erosion and tooth decay. Keep your oral health protected by leaning toward the fruits with a higher pH level, such as melons and bananas.

The Very Acidic Fruits

You will not be surprised one bit to learn about which fruits are known as the more acidic (meaning they have a lower pH). Remember, acid equals eroded dental tissue and vulnerability to problems like tooth decay. As a result, you can certainly eat them but keeping your intake to a minimum and remembering to rinse (then brush later) afterwards is a must. Some of the “bad guys” include lemons, limes, grapefruits, and cranberry juice! Proceed with caution.
